It's usually because they can't take care of it properly, and want it to have a good home. I am not adopted, but I know of some people who are. In one case, a girl didn't find out she was adopted until she was 15. She was so upset that she ran away from home. It's always a good idea to tell a child they're adopted before they hear it from some other source. By the same token, an adopted child should not feel that he or she was abandoned by the birth mother, and feel second best by the adoptive parents.
