Don't think she can, legally, but all she has to do is lie & say she doesn't know who the baby's father is, when it's born, right? Unless you're talking about an already-born child whose father is listed on the birth certificate...If the baby isn't born yet, I would make sure that the father was told as soon as the mother goes into labor & can get to the hospital & be there for the birth & all that, and make sure he is listed as the baby's father on the birth certificate, if he can. (don't understand why the mother would want to put the baby up for adoption while the father's family is willing to take it, unless she has serious reservations about their ability to parent her child as she sees appropriate, but she won't have this choice over whatever parents the adoption agency finds for her child, will she? Unless she wants to have an open adoption, where she knows the prospective parents--alot of people are going this route these days (I knew a girl that did this with her first child, about 25 years ago, she was only 17 or so when she had the baby, and could not afford to raise it right, and she wanted to give her child the opportunity to grow up in a better home than she could give it then, so she somehow arranged an open adoption, where she actually selected the couple that would take her baby & adopt it, and they have kept in touch over the years, and she was always on a friendly basis with them, and appreciated what they could do for her child that she couldn't, although she has since had a couple of kids by a later marriage that she has raised with her husband, and all her sons know each other, and they are all friends, so it can work out sometimes in the best way. dsayless

mothers and fathers have equal rights
you need permission for his child
sounds like you are being nasty
why wouldn't you give it to his family obviously you have an agenda other than the baby's welfare Lordpercywoosterxxviii

It goes to court, if the father is able to support he child and offer it a good life then the babe will go to him, and the mother will be slapped for not doing so sooner.

You could lie and say that the babe was the result of a one night stand if you're not married, take it to an adoption agency a bit further away becuase "you didnt feel comfortable with the one in your current city". - This is morally wrong however and you'd be a total biach for doing it. Stuart

No I think the father should be involved. It takes two to tango and the father has just as many rights as the mother. It is wrong to do something so significant without talking to the other party. k4aic
