I'm 21 yrs old, 28 wks pregnant and didn't want to give up my freedom and I was worried I couldn't afford to raise a baby .. But you know what, I stepped up to the plate and decided to parent her no matter what.. I just hope that if you're pregnant, you'll try finding a way to keep your baby before giving him or her away. Its your baby, its half you, and you are responsible for its life .. Just try to remember that. I had an open adoption in progress .. I could not afford a child at the time, nor could he. My parents gave me three options and advised me to chose one of the three - they would support me in any decision I made. Marry him, abort the child, or put the baby up for adoption. I knew marriage was out right away ... I knew how I would be if I chose to put the baby up for adoption - I wouldn't care about the pregnancy and I probably couldn't have given up the child in the end either. My boyfriend at the time would have fought my decision and end up convincing me to keep the baby. I prayed and prayed about my decision and chose abortion. It's not something I am proud of nor do I advise others to decide to abort rather than adopt. Adoption is my first choice ... My mother gave birth to me at 20, and for many complex reasons including financial instability she chose to place me for adoption. She made her decision about 4 weeks before I was born, when my biological father hit her out of the blue with the information he was marrying another woman - also pregnant. I now know my birth mother and have a relationship with her. I love her dearly and my life has been a stable, good one, just like she wanted for me.
