I had talked to a birthmom who knew the dad but he hadn’t had anything to due with them since she was pregnant and the baby was 1. The legal way to go about it is checking the father on some list, a lawyer would know what it’s called (you can ask a lawyer and they won’t charge). If they are not on the list the courts will terminate his rights because it is the same situation as an orphan. I know this wasn’t too specific but I hope it helps.

if you put up the child for adoption, how is that fair to the father?

You can give it up without his consent. If the baby is already born try to do an open adoption so you know who the baby is going to. You don’t have to keep in touch but you will be able to get to know the future parents a bit. I would adopt in the USA. Canada is ok but their health care is not so great. It takes forever to get anything done. Since your boyfriend has an abusive past and so does his mother the baby cannot legally be raised by them so its all yours. That means you can give it up for adoption. Binka

no you can’t. The child is not able to be adopted, at least legally, unless both parents sign off their rights to the child. Either you sign your rights away and he keeps the child, or you keep that baby and fight as hard as you can to get full custody. I vote for the second scenario! Glam Mommy

They wont try to adopt the child, just do the legal and correct thing. Your being very smart on the one hand, and very immature on the other hand sorry, truth be told here.
Being so deceptive could wind you up with fraud charges and in jail. So weigh out just putting the baby up with no father listed, or dealing with asking him for his signature. He may be ok with not paying child support on this. I doubt hed call his entire family and ask if he keeps the baby will someone raise it, hed have to pay them child support that way too. loves christmas lights

why cant you just keep your baby and take his father to court? you may be doing the right thing but im a mother and i could never give up my child just because his father and his fathers family is crazy talk to a councilor make sure your making the right decision for you and your baby tannadunlap

No. He has just as much rights to the baby as you do. If you could prove the abuse, it is possible to have his parental rights terminated, but you would have to do that through the courts prior to any adoption proceedings. Enigmatic
