The girls parents could not put the baby up for adoption, and the only way anybody can have a child taken and their parental rights terminated legally against their will is if they were found to be an unfit parent by the department of children and families or its equivalent(DSS, CPS, ect) Lucky
no , because under the law you are consider an adult when it comes to making decisions like this even if you are minor by your chronological age, in two instances:
1. you have a baby
2. you are a minor, but you live alone (without parents) nnnn
Like others have said the girl would have to be proven unfit or neglectful. Most often when a minor has a child the parents will file for custody, giving them rights to the child and to be able to make medical decisions. However, for the baby to be adopted the mother’s rights would have to be terminated or signed away willingly.
If a girls parents are threatening with taking the baby away that is not a good environment for her or the baby. She could talk to a social worker about moving into a home that is for young girls that are in the same position. They will help make sure she learns everything to need to be able to take care of the baby on her and also provide daycare so that she can finish school. shinegirl82
In the state where I live, a young mother who is a minor must still have a parent, guardian, or a foster home, or some other parental care for herself and her baby, if she is not married and keeps her baby.
Her parents probably cannot legally force her to surrender her baby…but many of them do it illegally…by threats and cruelty.
There are some awful grandparents out there…still.
ETA: several people who work as mothers’ advocates in the legal field in my area told me that very young pregnant teens can get medicaid and other benefits, but they must still be under some kind of guardianship until they are of legal age.
There are also non-profit group homes that help them. Some are very good and truly help them keep their babies. Others are just fronts for adoption agencies. These young mothers are very vulnerable. kitta
no, the parents could not have her baby taken away. however, if she cannot care for the child, and prove that she can support it. then the state could step in and take custody at least temporarily while she figures out what to do. If someone responsible is willing to give them her and the baby a stable home, and she finds a way to earn some money, she could get food stamps and such an she could have her baby as long as she doesn’t party or let anyone dangerous near it. kathleen
By law, no - BUT yes, they most certainly do.
All it takes is a slimy underhanded baby broker working in an agency to collude with her parents and she won’t stand a chance. I’ve know mothers who had no say that the pap’s were “permitted” in the delivery room. The pap’s, parents and brokers, all knew the mother’s didn’t want adoption. The brokers have this stuff down pat and know how to get around the law. Wellspring
No!!! But unless court decides u cant raise that child. Parent cant force you or take away YOUR child because they want to and dont matter if ur under age. °Jenny°
