Legally, the courts have to get in contact or at least try and get in contact with the natural father and ask him about his perspective on adoption.

If he refuses to let the child be put up for adoption, but the mother does not want the child. Then he has to claim the child for himself and raise the child himself.

If he agrees, he should be informed that once he agrees, there is no turning back when he wants the child back.

It's basically legalities so everyone's asses are covered.

However, there a times where the mother will take extreme measures to ensure that the adoption is carried out without the father knowing.

Some states have what is called the putative father registry. Once the father has any idea that a child could have been created through their actions, if they want any rights to the child, they need to register as a putative father. (having sex should be reason enough to know that there could be a baby)
When the baby is born the attorney/agency must make efforts to reach the father, either through his last known address or an add in the local newspapers of his last known city. He usually has one month to register.... if he doesn't respond or register, his rights as a father will be terminated. (usually one month after placement has happened) Hope this makes sense...

No. He still needs to sign away his rights. He could turn around and take the mother to court for a paternity test and get the baby back if she decides to give the baby up without his consent and he could possibly get sole custody if the mother signed away her rights already.

I recently experienced this as an adoptive parent so I can help you out! My birthmom knew who the dad was but he hadn't been around since he found out she was pregnant and the child is now 1. The birthmother had to work with her attorney to locate the father. If he isn't listed on the list of potential fathers then the courts with terminate his rights. If he is found he will be presented with the adoption idea and asked to sign away his rights. I hope this helps. Thank goodness when my birthdad was found he jumped on board and signed the papers right away. Good luck!

Is he denying the child one hundred percent? Well, the child shouldn't be adopted unless the father knows about it. What if he does indeed want to raise the baby? Why put the baby up for adoption anyway if someone in the family could raise it. Obviously you are someone in the family. Raise the baby! She made a mistake. Doesn't mean she can just betray the baby and get of scot-free. That's horrible. That baby will grow up with identify issues all over the place. All because the baby is going to be considered 'drama' and an inconvenience to the mom? That's just sad and irresponsible.

I believe that the father is supposed to sign as well. But I think if he does not want the child he will gladly sign them away...
Why he'd be heartless Idk..but some men are like that.

Call a local adoption agency and they'll tell you what the state laws are, I know where I am you're required even if the father isn't on the certificate to make every effort to find him. If you can't find him usually a simply informational add in a couple newspapers will do. However, if he's denying the child already the adoption agency may be able to sit down with him and discuss the option and get him to sign his rights.

Legally, the father has to sign away his rights. They will not allow an adoption to proceed unless he does that. He could in 5-10 years...all of a sudden change his mind, and want the child back. So they need to make it clear, and to inform him, once he signs his rights away...it's for good.
