In Illinois Does a 16 yr old have to have parents present to give her baby up for adoption?
Does anyone know if the law requires an underage girl to give a baby up?
Tina thats not what the question is asking. I know people dont have to give up a baby.
I think the question is quite clear. Thank you
And thank you Dalton’s Mommy for answering my question properly.

No you do not HAVE TO give a baby up.

No, the baby is yours and it is their decision to either keep the baby or give the baby up for adoption. I have heard of the parents not signing the papers and the transfer of the baby to the adoptive parents had to be off hospital grounds (not sure what state that was in) Your parents cannot force you either way.

If Tina’s answer isn’t to the question you want answering, then you might want to clarify what question you’re actually trying to ask as there are two different questions in your posting.

Your question was clear from the beginning. It just didn’t ask for people’s opinions on how this is a good thing to keep a child at 16 and adoption isn’t. But they will have their say anyway. The situation is unique and the decision will be unique to that situation.
You don’t need parental consent and 16 is probably legal age in your state in this case.
Whoever is considering adoption for this child is in fact thinking about ALL options and as loving as the mother can be, the stats support that a child being raised by a such a young mother doesn’t do as well as being in a two-parent, stable home.
You seem very polite and to the point. I like that!

yes, a 16 year old must have at least one parent present. No law requires an underage girl to give up a baby.
