In the US when people put their unwanted babies up for adoption, does that cost tax-dollar as well?

Lem J asked:

Let say if a woman have a baby at the hospital, but she doesn’t want it, she then just leave it at a safe haven or putting it up for adoption, do those things cost tax-dollar as well? Do adoption agency rely on state funding as well?

If she just leaves it at a safe haven, the child is put in the child protective system, which does cost money to the state. If she puts him/her up for adoption, the adopting family typically pays any fees involved, though there is a substantial tax deduction available for these fees. James

Yes it could, depending on the circumstances. Your “safe haven” example most likely would use tax dollars. But some women already have a couple ready to adopt right away. This would not use tax dollars (or much. much less).

But I’m not quite understanding what you are getting at. Are you implying that adoption should be banned? That “safe haven” laws should be repealed? I’m really curious where this question is going. Mutt
