How to Give Baby up for Adoption without Father’s Permission?

Hello, anybody know how I can give up my baby for adoption without the father’s permission?
My reason is I know I cannot take care of the baby and want to put him in a good home. I am not married. The father is my exboyfriend who is physically and mentally abusive. The last thing I want to do is for my child to grow up with a monster. My ex claims he found Jesus and changed…but I found out he told that to his last girlfriend too and beat her too. His family is obsessively Catholic so they have some crazy Christian guilt/violence issues. His mom is really nuts and abused him too so I don’t want to give my baby to the grandparents.
Would doing the adoption in Canada be better than the USA?
The reason I cannot go to court is I do not have money for a long legal custody fight. I am not financially able to take care of my baby so that is why adoption is the answer.
